What Other Costs?
Summer Showcase:
The Downstairs Cabaret Theatre will be selling tickets to all
of the Summer Showcases. Tickets are
$7.00 for adults, and $3.50 for children under 10 years of age.
Tickets may be ordered by calling 325-4370
or through the DCT-SEP office before camp each day.
Why do we sell tickets?
One important reason is to give value to what the students have achieved.
They are giving a performance, and that performance warrants respect for
their time, effort, and talents. By
charging admission, we validate their work, as we do for the professional actors
and actresses at the DCT.
Another reason is space constraints. With
a small theatre, we have limited audience seating.
We can be sure that the audience members who buy tickets, want to be
there. It also helps to ensure that
there are enough seats for every student’s family.
(If the tickets are free, someone may grab 20 tickets for extended family
and friends, leaving less available for others.)
Finally, the ticket price helps to pay for production costs – costumes,
props, scenery, etc. These costs are
not always covered by program fees.
Showcase Videos:
At least one of the showcases for each session will be
professionally videotaped. At the video-taped performance, you will not be
allowed to video tape the show. DVDs of the performance will be offered
for sale by the videographer. In the past, the dvds have sold for around $25. This is not a required cost, but we thought you might want to know up
front!
Costumes?
Yes, students will need costumes for the showcase, but we do
everything we can to provide a suitable costume for your child. In the
past, we have asked parents to send in a costume piece or two, if the
student already has that item at home. Please, do not buy any
costume pieces!
DAILY:
What
to Wear? What to Bring?
Our days will be filled with fun, exploration,
discovery, and hard work. You will
need to be prepared each day by wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothes.
As an actor, you will be moving in scenes, in songs, and in dance class,
so make sure you can move easily! Dance
or soft-sole shoes are preferred. No
sandals, flip-flops, or heels & minimal jewelry, please!
Please put your name on all clothing and belongings.
You
will need to bring a lunch each day and perhaps a snack or two.
Since we cannot provide refrigeration, you may want to bring a small
cooler to keep your food and beverages cold.
As growing children and actors-in-training, you should also be thinking
about what you eat! We encourage
healthy choices to help you get the energy & nutrition you will need to
succeed!
That’s it! Don’t bring
anything else! If you are committed
to improving your skills as a performer, you don’t need any distractions!
Toys, video games, and other electronic devices will just prevent you
from doing your best!
